This will only change the default notification sound for all notifications on the phone. If people want specific custom notification sounds for different apps, they MUST have the categories turned on.
Settings/notifications/advanced settings/manage notification categories for all apps. Return to the mail app settings and tap on categories and choose the accounts and notification types for each account for which you would like notifications, set the notification sound for each account and you're done.

I have always been able to go to my settings in messenger and change the notification sound for my text messages until recently. I now have one notification for most apps. I've looked to see if it was moved haven't found the settings. Can anyone help or is this the results of the new update?
This phone is dead to me. I get all the notifications for things that do not matter and all of the tings that do get buried in a lengthy list and all of the notification sounds are all the same.
Try looking at your notification history by going to: Settings / Notifications / Advanced Settings / Notification History. If it isn't on, try turning it on to at least help you track down what's making the notification sound. What does it sound like?
