The newest 7-Zip and PeaZip can work on Windows 2000 and above, but WinRar and WinZip require at least Windows 7. As for history: WZip originates from 1991, WRar from 1995, 7Z from 1999, PeaZ from 2006!
So I am a little confused on this, which website is the official one, YT says that win-rar is the official one where as Google says rarlab is the official one, I want to download Winrar from the official website because I fear that the others are fake and will give me a virus.
I always see people recommending WinRar and 7zip as essential PC software, but what does it actully do? I got a new laptop with only 128GB (so realistically 102GB and only 71GB left after OS), so I don't have the space for frivolous programs.
I'm still using WINrar to manage my compressed files, but I'm thinking about switching to 7zip. Are there any notable things that aren't in 7zip that WINrar has and vice versa?
Wanna get your opinion about this matter. Is Windows 11 built-in zipping feature good enough for handling zipped folders/files (compression and extraction) rather than using 3rd-party apps (like WinRAR or 7-Zip?).
